History of The Throgs Neck Little League

1952 - League formed as Northeast Bronx Little League & chartered by Little League Baseball Inc. of Williamsport, Pennsylvania for player of 8 to 12 years of age.

1953 - League on the verge of disbanding due to lack of finances is taken over by Leo Vitti and saved.

1955 - Leo Vitti is joined by Bob Jonap and a life-long partnership is created.

1959 - Began a baseball program for players 13 to 15 years of age.

1960 - Won the NYC Little League Championship which was televised on WPIX-TV.

1962 - The fear of losing our ball fields through a scheduled Public Auction is thwarted through local community and political pressure.

1963 - League name officially changed to Throgs Neck Little League. Held first Bazaar on East Tremont Ave. to begin raising funds to re-build fields.

1965 - City reveals plan to construct a sewage treatment plant on our fields. The battle began!

1966 - Battle to retain fields culminated at a public hearing at PS-72 at which, sitting Borough President Herman Badillo obtained exclusive for Throgs Neck Little League to use property.

1967 - Let out contracts to build new fields with fencing and underground sprinkler system. Throgs Neck Little League All Stars finish second in final for State Championship at Painted Post NY.
